The internet was up in arms about Sarah Michelle Gellar’s reaction to a mention of her I Know What You Did Last Summer co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt. Rest assured, the actress cleared up her true intentions and is looking forward to working with her again.
On the red carpet of her new series Dexter: Original Sin on December 11, Extra asked her if she knows if the 9-1-1 star will be in the sequel. Gellar played Helen Shivers while Hewitt played Julie James. “I know Jennifer Love Hewitt said that she’s possibly returning,” the reporter said. “You can’t tell [us]?” Gellar shrugged and nonchanlantly said, “nothing to do with that.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar cleared the air with an Instagram story regarding her role in the sequel. “Aspiring actors please note: this deer in the headlights reaction is perfect for when you are excited to see so many old friends in one project but have already stupidly forgotten what NDA means once this month,” she wrote in the caption of a picture of her on set. Gellar had already gave a spoiler when she visited her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. on set. “I found out that they hadn’t posted any pictures from the set yet, hadn’t announced they started filming. Yeah … that was an ‘Oops! My bad!’ ” she shared on Live with Kelly and Mark, adding, “I got in a little bit of trouble.”
Jennifer Love Hewitt confirmed that she would be returning to the franchise on December 13, 2024. She previously brought up the feud rumors and expressed her excitement and love towards Sarah Michelle Gellar on the I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario podcast. “I was 18. They were not taking script notes from me. All of us were in that experience together, you know, figuring it all out and everything. And I root for her and Freddie,” she said. “I think it’s the cutest thing in the world that they’ve been married for 100 years and have kids. It’s, like, adorable. So it’s just been really funny to see all of this stuff.”
