Liam Payne has died in Argentina, TMZ has confirmed. The former One Direction singer was only 31.
Payne was in Buenos Aires at the time of his death, at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. He is reported to have fallen from his room, on the 3rd floor. There’s no indication yet whether his death was intentional or accidental. Payne had been in Argentina for a Niall Horan concert, with his One Direction bandmates reuniting at the show.
Witnesses reported Payne was acting erratic at the hotel lobby earlier in the day, with the singer smashing his laptop and needing help to get back to his room.
Payne was 16 when he, alongside Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik made up One Direction. The band was created during The X Factor. One Direction broke up in 2015.
In June 2021 Payne admitted that he struggled with both alcohol and prescription drug addictions during his time in the band. Earlier this week Payne’s ex-fiancée, Maya Henry, claimed Payne left her after asking her to get an abortion.
